Welcome

Croydon Almshouse Charities aims to improve the quality of life of older people and others in need in our communities.

Our historic and thriving group, comprises

  • two almshouses: the Elis David Almshouses, a modern purpose-built block of 55 flats in central Croydon, and the Mary Tate Almshouses, which comprise seven cottages overlooking Cricket Green in Mitcham. See our Elis David Almshouses or Mary Tate Almshouses pages for more information.
  • the Relief in Need charity which gives grants to Croydon residents of all ages who are in need, or facing distress or hardship, and to local and national organisations which help them. Find out more on the Relief in Need pages.

We welcome enquiries from people who are looking for accommodation at either of the almshouses, or who are seeking a grant for a local charity or individual in need. To be eligible to live in the almshouses, a person must be in need, as a result of poverty, age, disability or other disadvantage, and be living in the London Borough of Croydon or the Ancient Parish of Mitcham. Where grants are made to national organisations, they must be used to the direct benefit of people living in Croydon. Find out more on the How to Apply for Accommodation and How to Apply for a Grant pages.
